About Us

Welcome to Adelaide Aquaponics. We are the exclusive South Australian distributor of Practical Aquaponics systems. The systems are the best in domestic and suburban aquaponics offering high levels of practicality, safety and aesthetic appeal.

For many years my wife, Belinda, and I have been keen vegetable gardeners and have always maintained highly productive vegetable gardens. Our gardens have ranged from several pots when we were renting to an organic 9-bed, Peter Cundall (ABC – Gardening Australia) inspired “suburban farm”. We also have 4 chickens and our 2 kids really enjoy going out to collect the eggs and pick some vegetables for dinner. We often find them eating snow peas and strawberries straight out of the garden.

We have now increased our food production ability with the addition of an aquaponics system. The system has a relatively small footprint (1.5m2) and the vegetable beds can be planted very densely due to the high amount of nutrients provided by the fish. We hope to harvest in excess of 30kg of fish per year. This means we should be able to have a nice sized, fresh trout which we have grown ourselves at least every fortnight.

We have just added (Oct 2008) 25 Rainbow Trout from the Tooperang Trout Farm. The trout are around 150-170mm and cost us .50 each. We were very happy with the condition of the fish and the advice and assistance we received from the guys at Tooperang and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who wants to give trout a go. You can contact Bill Walker at Tooperang Trout Farm on (08) 8556 9048 and they are located on Clelands Gully Rd, Tooperang/Mt Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia.

A couple of pictures taken 31 October. The plants are going crazy and are so far ahead of the same batches of seedlings planted in the ground at the same time.

Here is the latest picture of the system (16 Nov) the plant growth is amazing. We are harvesting zuccini and beans and have tomatos and chillis almost ready. A couple of the fish are over 200g already and it will be a hard task to resist eating one over christmas.
